Cayson's Organ Donation(s)

Cayson was a registered organ donor, and while painful to deal with at the time of his death, our family has been blessed to know how his organs saved the lives of 4 individuals, the donation of his Lungs, Liver, and Kidneys; and his bone and tissue samples will continue to help others for years to come...

Cayson Pearson saved the lives of 4 people as an organ donor, this is the information they have chosen to share with us:

KIDNEYS:

Kidney donation provides recipients the ability to regulate their own blood pressure and remove toxins from their body, granting health, quality of life, and time to share with their families rather than regular trips to dialysis.

  • Cayson's left kidney was given to a recipient in the Mountain region of the country who is in their 50's.
  • Cayson's right kidney was given to a recipient in the Mountain region in their 60's who has been married for 35 years with one daughter, is self-employed, enjoys yardwork, books on tape, watching birds and playing with dogs.  This recipient has reported doing well following the transplant.

LIVER:

More than eleven thousand (11,000) recipients are waiting for a liver transplant due to acute or chronic liver failure or hepatocellular carcinoma.

  • Cayson's liver saved the life of a gentleman in his 50's from the Mountain region of the country who works at a meat packing plant.  He is married, has two children and seven grandchildren.  He is reported to be in excellent condition following his transplant.

LUNGS:

Lung recipients suffer from a variety of end-stage lung diseases, and each of them has been told at least once that their days are numbered without an organ donor.

  • Cayson's lungs gave a man in his 60's from the North Central region of the country the ability to take another breath.  The gift of a deep breath is precious and rare, and Cayson's lungs will continue to provide a meaningful life for this man and his loved ones.

BONE, TISSUE, and SKIN GRAFTS:

Cayson not only saved lives through the gift of organ donation, but will also help many others through tissue donation.  Bone, soft tissue, and skin grafts were recovered.  Tissue grafts are transplanted between 6 months and 5 years after recovery, and can help as many as 75 people or more.  After 6 months, we will be able to know more specifically about these donations.

  • Tissue Donation: "Kathy" wrote our family this letter: "I am writing to thank you for the kind and generous gift of tissue donation from your loved one.  I am so sorry for your loss, but I want you to know that your decision to donate has changed my life in a very positive way.  I needed a tissue transplant because the talas bone in my ankle developed a lesion and I couldn't walk without pain.  Since the tissue transplant, I have been able to walk without pain and the orthopedic boot.  I have my life back.  For this I am very grateful to you and your loved one.  My family and I will always remember your act of kindness and generosity."
